Relay for Life is a big part of Crawford’s corporate and employee commitment to making a difference in our local communities. We have employees across Canada who volunteer at Relay For Life, helping to make each event a success. The touching stories that participants share during the event inspire others to participate again each year.
Crawford supports our employee involvement by creating an annual national campaign that includes local fundraising ideas, tool kits and event information. Once teams and participants are registered, we let employees know which of their colleagues are participating to encourage them to pledge each other.
Crawford’s branch offices across Canada come up with unique fundraising events that work in their communities and are encouraged to share these stories internally to promote enthusiasm. Some of these events have included:
• One of our employees grows his hair each year and then shaves it off. In 2012, his grandchildren also participated. Personal contributions like this raise a significant amount of awareness amongst our clients and the community.
• At Easter, employees have the opportunity to send a “candy-gram.” Many of our managers and supervisors use it as a chance to send a shout-out to their staff and express their appreciation for their hard work.
• Remote control car races, ping pong tournaments and other events with an entry fee and prize are always big hits, as well as great stress relievers.
• BBQs are a great way to get people together and to raise awareness. Combining it with a CEO dunk tank, executive leadership fashion show (with execs dressed in 70’s costumes or their favourite jerseys) drives excitement.
• Waffle/omelette breakfasts prepared by management create a network of support and recognition.
• Many employees at our offices sell products like Pampered Chef, Avon or make their own jewellery. By making a donation to Relay for each item purchased, they have the opportunity to bring their items into the office and advertise their products or services.
